Realism is a spice to the meal which is a campaign. On some occasions, a sprinkle is required; at other times, a generous helping is a necessity. However, rarely if ever does it constitute a meal unto itself and it is far too easy to indulge to the point of repulsion. Re: Sexy half-orcs and orcs? Post by Scalydemon » Thu May 14, pm Gimme the pig faces. For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled. The battle outside ragin' will soon shake your windows and rattle your walls. It became the visual standard for orcs.

I mean, really? Dig it. That and creepy boys and men needed something else to look at while, uh, entertaining themselves. No idea if these are from World of Warcraft:. I'll lump this with the "sexy vampire" trend foisted upon us by a certain best-selling series of novels and films. Pigs have really cute faces. Post by Nagora » Fri May 15, am End of. Post by Storm11 » Fri May 15, am Some of those orcs need to go shopping. For pants! Post by skalding » Fri May 15, am It's a trend that has heavily influenced much of fantasy art and is clearly predated by mainstream comic-book art of the late 80s and early 90s onward.

Exaggerated-to-preposterous anatomy, supermodel facial types, static dramatic poses. IMO, for all the pretense of a greater diversity, it's awfully homogenic. You can find this in many video-games today. The art below is from Raid: Shadow Legends In my campaign, however, orcs are quite savage and bestial, pretty much like Peter Jackson portrayed them in his LotR trilogy.

I prefer them like this: I really don't like "pig-faced" orcs, though - I think they are silly. Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened. Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. Post by Valerfor » Fri May 15, pm The problem with some of the beautified orcs is that their small tusks are looking completely out of place, almost like an afterthought. Can't say the same when you look at Grimgor Ironhide Immortal Warhammer art.

Some of them are just too cute for killing And some of them are just terrible They evoke no feeling whatsoever except to turn the to the next monster. Nowadays I can take it as compliment. Thanks, contemporary fantasy artists, I feel so much better about myself now! I can dodge folly without backing into fear. IMO, that's not just "at a distance, in poor light" - they will be accepted as humans by humans who know no better.

A half orc's maximum Charisma is 12 1e PHB, Against those who are not half orcs they suffer a penalty of -2, so the maximum to a human is So, at best average. But Charisma is not equal to looks. Comeliness UA 6 for half orcs suffers a -3 penalty when viewed by other races, so if someone rolling up a half orc gets an 18, and decides to put it in comeliness, they'll have a 15 when viewed by, e.

Such an individual would be classed as "good-looking". Not a supermodel, but attractive. The thing is, will someone rolling up a half orc really put an 18 in Comeliness rather than Strength, Dexterity, or just about anywhere else? The kind of player that wants a good-looking character doesn't normally roll up a half orc in the first place. So it could happen, but I've never seen it in 40 years of play. Is the character ugly, homely, plain, or pretty?

This characteristic is determined by the comeliness roll. Post by serleran » Fri May 15, pm Half-orcs were always supposed to, at least the ones being played, passable as humans so I don't see what the fuss is there except as regards non-played characters. Orcs, though They're not "pretty" but they're also not cartoon ugly.

Post by Turko » Fri May 15, pm They're not "sexier," they just hired better artists As a lifelong Tolkien fan, I never really liked the "pigfaces". It seemed more like someone heard, or read "bestial" or "beast-like" and said "hey, I'll stick-on an animal-head and call it a day".
